GOD: Creator and Sustainer!

ONCE AGAIN ... the Lord amazes me with His "Combo" study effect ... reading one scripture, maybe through a reading plan of some sort, and then moving on to something you are studying, and seeing a clear link between the two.

Psalm 74:12-17 gives us some great "creation" truths. Verse 16: "Thine is the day, Thine is the night; Thou hast prepared the light and the sun." - NASB

The other verses are wonderful specifics, but interesting that verse 16 comes as a reminder that it is ALL covered by God.

THEN ... I have just begun this year a study of the Book of Hebrews, using F.F. Bruce, John Calvin, Rick Phillips, and of course, John MacArthur. The MacArthur commentary just had me in Hebrews 1:1-4 ... MAGNIFICENT verses of the magnitute of Christ in the creation AND sustaining of the earth. TALK ABOUT "SUSTAINABILITY"!!! :-)

"He upholds all things by the Word of His Power." MacArthur tells us:

Christ not only made all things and will someday inherit all things, but He holds them all together in the meanwhile. The Greek word for 'upholds' means 'to support, to maintain', and it is used here in the present tense, implying continuous action."

Great stuff in and of itself. Then MacArthur makes THIS comment:

Everything in the universe is sustained right now by Jesus Christ."

It seems the buzz word in the business and economic world, especially in the food, manufacturing, and "green" communities, is "sustainability".

TODAY ... we have seen the Ultimate Sustainer ... and His name is Jesus Christ!
